Since drones became widely available, military forces around the world have been using them extensively. The DoD, however, has up until now not had the opportunity to safely adopt such systems. As of September 1, the US Department of Defense (DoD) has been able to buy small drones from five Pentagon-approved manufacturers. The go-ahead is the result of an 18-month project, coined Blue small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS), to develop small, reliable drones for the DoD.
