Cockies and police suspect criminals are using drones to scope out rural properties for burglaries. A drone was spotted scouting a farm near Matamata just days before a farm shed was burgled. The shed on Gunn Road was one of the many farm burglaries in June. Thieves stole an Ole-mac chainsaw, AEG drill, Hikoki drill, petrol container and a golf trundler. Nearby residents reported seeing a drone flying in the area a week before the burglary occurred, and while police can’t confirm the two are connected, they admit it’s “suspicious”. The victim of the burglary, who didn’t want to be named, told Stuff the first thing they did was call their neighbours to raise awareness.
